(Jason Wright, 6 August 2020) 1845c 3x Uniquely Rare (As far as I can find) Family Daguerreotypes by James Scott 63 Frederick St Edinburgh: These are possibly the only 3 known daguerreotypes by James Scott. All 3 sitters are also ID’d. Bryce McMurdo Ranken (who holds the telescope) was born on August 7th 1804 in Sanquhar Dumfries-shire, Scotland (His father was the Rev William RANKEN, B. and his mother Margaret Barker born 1767). Bryce married Jane Young Pollexfen in 1840. Their first daughter together Margaret Chaytor Horne was born in 1841. A 2nd daughter, Louisa Ann, married Harry Carwardine Hebden of Eday, Deputy Lieutenant for the County of Orkney, on 6th September 1877. The other two daguerreotypes are id’d as Bryce’s in-laws, Tom Pollexfen (collector of taxes 1775-1840) and Margaret Pollexfen (1780-1852).
