Three of the daguerreotypes not from the Youle family group have Electrotypo-Fredricks eŽ Weeks stamped on their gilt mats, identifying the photographers as Charles DeForest Fredricks and George H. [?] Weeks. A full plate view of the harbor of Recife probably dates to 1851 when Fredricks and Weeks had a brief partnership in Recife. The two smaller stamped daguerreotypes are also believed to have a Brazilian provenance. They are a portrait of two girls and 3/4 view of a seated black woman in domestic servant attire holding an infant in her lap--one of the earliest known photographs of a black person taken in Brazil.
