View of the Midgol gateway at the temple complex of Medinet Habu. This represents the original eastern entrance to the precinct of the mortuary temple of Rameses III (1184-1153 BC): it is a fortified gate-house, or tower, and takes its name from a Syrian fortress. The walls are decorated with scenes of the king smiting his enemies.
