Photograph of the Wagon road or Cariboo road on the left as it follows the Fraser Canyon. On the right, the Fraser River runs vertically through the centre of the image. On the far right is a rocky escarpment, with patchy tree cover. On the left and right are wooden frames used for the drying of salmon. In the background are the peaks of the canyon.

The Fraser River Canyon was formed during the Micene period by the river cutting through interior plateaus on its way to the Fraser Valley. The Cariboo Wagon road was a road begun in 1860 and linked Yale to Barkerville in British Columbia. It was initiated by the then Governor of British Columbia, James Douglas (1803-77).
