(Graham Pilecki, 23 June 2022) Henry Alexander Cooper was born on the 12th June 1853 at Robinsons Yard, Commercial Street, Norton near Malton, North Yorkshire. After a bout with typhoid fever at age 16 he went through an period of extraordinary growth. He was discovered by a fairground owner at Brotton, North Yorks and invited to join the Circus. He toured places such as Leeds, Newcastle, Bradford, Morcambe, Sunderland etc. He was soon noticed by P. T. BARNUM, joined him and travelled to America billed as The Tallest Man in the World. Cooper was to travel America and Canada with several circuses for the rest of his life. He was known by many entertainers names including Henry Alexander Cooper, Colonel H.A.Cooper etc. In 1882-84 he was with the Adam Forepaugh Circus as a giant in the side show. In 1887 he applied to become an American Citizen. There were varying reports as to his actual height, which was never confirmed, ranging from 7' 6" to 8' 8". He passed away on August 16, 1899 in Calgary, Alberta Canada.
