Photograph of a bridge spanning the Thompson river in British Columbia. A cluster of buildings are on the left bank of the river and a single building stands on the right of the river known as Rattlesnake Flat. A large mountain dominates the background.

Spences Bridge is the name of a settlement in British Columbia and is situated amongst a mountain range known as the Clear Range in British Columbia. The Thompson River was named after the explorer, David Thompson (1770-1857). Born in London, Thompson was also a fur trader and map maker. He left England for Canada in 1784 after entering an apprenticeship with the Hudson bay Company. He died at Longueuil, Canada.
