The disappeared wife! This cabinet card by Saylor of Reading was obviously an intermediate step in making another cabinet card or a crayon portrait but I really don't understand why they mounted it on cabinet card stock. All that is left of the wife is the bottom of here skirt below the blanked out background and a ghost of her hand on his shoulder that is not very skillfully retouched out. Contributing to the strangeness is the border of the original card on the left and the brick wall it was attached to.
