Photograph of four men hoisting the main sail, amidships of the "Terra Nova". Photograph taken from the rigging next to poop deck After transporting Scott and his team in late 1910, Terra Nova left Antarctica in February 1911, returning in January 1912 with much-needed supplies. The ship had to leave again before she was frozen in, so on 3 March Terra Nova departed, leaving a small group behind who were waiting for Scott to return from the South Pole. Ponting made this image on the journey back to New Zealand.

Presented to King George V, 1914
