Photograph of the members of the 1921 Mount Everest Reconnaissance Expedition team with, from left to right standing: Alexander Wollaston (1875-1930); Colonel Charles Howard-Bury (1881-1963); Dr Alexander Heron (1884-1971); Harold Raeburn (1865-1926). Left to right front row are: George Leigh Mallory (1886-1924); Captain Edward Wheeler (1890-1962); Guy Henry Bullock (1887-1956); Major Henry Morshead (1882-1931). In the background on the left of the group stands a tent. In the background is a rock strewn plateau.
Following three weeks spent exploring the area to the north and west of Everest, Mallory and Bullock returned to the main camp in the Kharta Valley on August 20th for 10 days rest and recuperation. This photograph was probably taken during the time that Mallory was forced to rest at camp having pushed himself too hard in the previous three weeks.
