Thierno Diop, also known as Dial Diop II, was elected Serigne Ndakarou in 1873 and an engraving of this photograph was published by Burdo (see below) in 1878. Hence the photograph dates between 1870-1878. I attribute this photograph to Blaise Bonnevide (1824-1906) as his son, Pierre Felix was a student and entered military service in during these years. However, evidence suggests that Felix Bonnevide was his father's assistant and traveled with him from a young age.

This photograph was frequently reprinted as a cdv over the following years and was popular as a souvenir. The successor studios of Louis Hostalier and Noal Frères also reprinted this photograph as late as the mid-1890's.
