Courtesy Fraenkel Gallery, San Francisco LL/33316 Winogrand positioned himself not as a critic looking for closure but as an artist who was actively discovering life forces that transform situations. In his Women Are Beautiful Portfolio he stated: "I suspect that I respond to their energies, how they stand and move their bodies and faces. In the end, the photographs are descriptions of poses or attitudes that give an idea, a hint of their energies."
