At about noon on 21st May 1864 the Army of the Potomac with Generals U.S. Grant and George Mead arrived at Massaponax Church, on Telegraph Road (Virginia, in Spotsylvania County). During a brief stay a Council of War was held and photographed by Timothy O'Sullivan through a window from the gallery in the nearby Massaponax Church.
