Photograph of Baroque interior of the Alcázar in Toledo, Spain. In the foreground stand Corinthian columns supporting decorative arches. On the first level, a gallery with a balustrade can be seen in the background below which, stairs lead through further arches to a window marked by a rectangle of pure white.

The Alcázar was originally built as a Roman Palace before becoming a fortification during the middle ages and finally a home for the Castilla La Mancha library together with the Museum of the Army which are housed there today. The Alcázar was badly damaged by a fire in 1886.

Acquired by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert
