| Howlett & Downes 16, the Leviathan Steam Ship, Portrait of Mr. Brunel 1857 (ca) Stereocard Stereographica - Antique Photographica Courtesy of Bryan and Page Ginns (#15 / 311) LL/11095 The Leviathan was to become the Great Eastern after the launch. Isambard Kingdom Brunel was the chief engineer and promoter of the "Great Ship", sadly he died just after the launching. This image perhaps more than any other captures the essence of Britain's industrial power in the mid 19th century.
