The raised leather covers are embossed, profusely gilded and feature colorful convex lithographs of a hummingbird & bluebird. The back cover has 4 porcelain rests set in brass surrounds. The gilded brass clasps have faux pearl decorations. The gilded fore edges have an engraved floral & zig-zag design. The CDV openings are all square, typical of early albums. Comes with index and instructions on how to insert the CDVs without damaging the pages. There is room for 50 images.
 
The date information is a little unclear but we feel that the original patent was March 8th, 1853 and on May 14th, 1861 it was extended until March 8th 1868. Further information is requested.
