This image is among the first photographs on paper ever made in Germany and represents one of the earliest attempts to photograph a museum collection. Ludwig Belitski produced almost 800 photographs, of which this print is one, for a series of albums illustrating the Minutoli collection, which had been gathered to encourage excellence in the industrial arts. The Minutoli collection was subsequently dispersed; Belistki's photographs are all that remain of it.
