The costumes and sets of "Metropolis" have become ever-present icons of modern cultural history, especially the 'Maschinenmensch' embodied by Brigitte Helm who played a double role as Maria and the robot. The film still offered here is one of the most famous and shows Maria as she is being used to project her appearance onto the robot, to enable it to entice and lead the masses.
