Photograph of a group of five members of a ?Canadian Field Regiment lying in front of three carved wooden statues that stand amidst trees. The man second from the left smokes a clay tobacco pipe.
With the exception of the man on the far left, the other four men in this photograph all wear uniform with caps bearing an insignia and could belong to the Victoria Field Regiment or the Royal Navy. In 1876 the Navy established a permanent presence in Comox by building a base on Goose Spit in 1876.
