Dr. Edward Christian Arning was born in Manchester England in 1855 and died in Munich in 1936. He was the son of a German merchant who had settled in England. Arning is considered the first microbiologist in Hawaii and he pioneered work on Leprosy. He was also a gifted amateur photographer.
