A woman posed in profile holding an open cased image and gazing upward towards the face of gent at left. With light applied color in gilt and flesh-tone. Housed in a full leather case with separated spine and two broken rails.
This intimate image seems to bear a deeper significance which leaves us to wonder whose image was in the case the woman holds open. Is she holding the image open to share with him or is her look somewhat unfriendly? Why was this personal moment commemorated in the large and costly half-plate format?
