| Margaret Watkins Domestic Symphony 1919 Palladium print 21.2 x 16.4 cm National Gallery of Canada / Musée des beaux-arts du Canada No. 20627 LL/63101 Curatorial description (Acccessed: 1 December 2015)
This still-life study of eggs on a drainboard showcases Watkins’ virtuosity at revealing form through the use of ordinary objects. The striped dish towel draped over the side of the enamel board adds a dimension of verticality while the rounded edges of the cast iron frying pan and an enamelware pie plate fill the background. This image was included in an article on Watkins and her photographs under the title “Photography Comes into the Kitchen” in Vanity Fair magazine in 1921.
