The German painter and court photographer Heinrich Schnaebeli specialized in portrait and horse photography. Using retouching and combining photographs and painting the artist achieved a certain style and was considered one of the most famous and sucessful sports photographers of his time. He opened his first studio in Berlin in 1855, and in 1868 he was appointed court photographer.
