Hester was a photographer from Germany who had a studio in the Pacific Northwest in the 1890's. In 1898 he joined throngs of gold seekers by traveling to Alaska. This is believed to be a photo of his claim. He retired from the photography business in 1905 and invested his gold mining profits from in real estate.
