9 May 1934ThumbnailNuremberg Nazi Party rally headed by Adolf Hitler. Leni Riefenstahl films the rally and makes it into the propaganda film Triumph of the Will (Triumph des Willens) which comes out in 1935.
 
  
Jan Dibbets (1941, 9 May - ) was born - The Netherlands, Weert. Dutch art professor, artist and photographer. 
  
Tibor Honty (1907, 9 May - 1968, 1 December) was born - Krompachy (Slovakia).  
  
Maija McDougal (1926, 9 May - ) was born - Latvia, Subate. Contemporary bromoilist in the UK and President of the Bromoil Circle of Great Britain. 
  
Charles Nčgre (1820, 9 May - 1880, 16 January) was born - France, Grasse. French painter and photographer. Taking up photography in 1844 he was one of the pioneers. 
  
Ben Schonzeit (1942, 9 May - ) was born - US, NY, Brooklyn. American realist painter who uses photography in his work. 
  
Grete Stern (1904, 9 May - 1999, 24 December) was born - Germany, Elberfeld [now Wuppertal-Elberfeld]. One of the most innovative ‘modernist‘ photographers in Weimar Germany. She founded the ringl + pit studio with Ellen Rosenberg Auerbach in 1930 but this closed down in 1933 when Hitler came to power. She later worked in England and More... 
  
Juan C. Abel (1869 - 1960, 9 May) died - England, Devonshire, Torquay.  
  
George Edward Anderson (1860, 20 October - 1928, 9 May) died - US, UT, Springville. Apprenticed with Charles Roscoe Savage in 1874 and opened his own studio at age seventeen. He travelled widely in Utah from the 1870s onwards. In 1900 he recorded the aftermath of the Scofield mine disaster.

Tošo Dabac (1907, 18 May - 1970, 9 May) died - Yugoslavia, Zagreb. Croatian artist and photographer of the Zagreb school. He took street photographs in Zagreb in the 1930s and 1940s. 
  
George C. Poundstone (1870, 14 February - 1938, 9 May) died - US.  
  
Freya Stark (1893, 31 January - 1993, 9 May) died - Italy, Asolo. Well known as a traveller and writer in the Middle East she was also a prodigious photographer leaving an archive of around 50,000 photographs.
