Ingvar Kenne (1965, 4 January - ) was born - Sweden, Norum. Swedish-born contemporary photographer living in Australia. 
  
Gustav Klutsis (1895, 4 January - 1944, 26 February) was born - Latvia, Riga. Soviet artist and photographer active in the 1920s and 1930s. He was arrested in 1938 and died in captivity in 1944. 
  
Laurence Salzmann (1944, 4 January - ) was born - US, Philadephia. Contemporary American photographer and filmmaker. 
  
Edward Linley Sambourne (1844, 4 January - 1910, 3 August) was born - England, London, Pentonville, 15 Lloyd Square. Primarily known as an illustrator and cartoonist he was also a keen amateur photographer who used photographs as the basis for his work. Eve Arnold (1912, 21 April - 2012, 4 January) died - UK, London. American photojournalist noted for her book ‘In China‘ and her work with Marilyn Monroe - particularly during the shooting of the film ‘The Misfits‘. In 1955 she became the first female member of the Magnum photo agency. 
  
John William Draper (1811, 5 May - 1882, 4 January) died - US, NY, Hastings-on-the-Hudson. American scientific photographer who in 1839 is reputed to have made his assistant the subject of the world‘s first photo portrait. He worked with Samuel F.B. Harold E. Edgerton (1903, 6 April - 1990, 4 January) died - US, MA, Cambridge. American scientific photographer and pioneer of stroboscopic photography in the 1930s.
