Edmond Becquerel (1820, 24 March - 1891, 11 May) was born - France, Paris. French physicist and innovator in early photography who in around 1848 used daguerreotypes to study the solar spectrum. 
  
Solomon D. Butcher (1856, 24 March - 1927, 18 March) was born - US, WV, Burton. An itinerant photographer of pioneer days in Nebraska. The Butcher collection at the Nebraska State Historical Society consists of nearly 3,500 negatives. 
  
John Lawrence William FFrench-Mullen (1868, 24 March - 1951, 26 October) was born.  
  
Val G. Jurgell (1908, 24 March - 1985, June) was born.  
  
Frank Scherschel (1907, 24 March - 1981, 23 May) was born. Staff photographer for The Milwaukee Journal (1926-1942) and LIFE magazine (1942-1962). He covered major events such as the Allied Landings in Normany and the Liberation of Paris during the Second World War. 
  
Edward Weston (1886, 24 March - 1958, 1 January) was born - US, IL, Highland Park. American landscape, still-life and nude photographer with a fascinating private life. Johanne Birkedahl (1858, 14 January - 1947, 24 March) died - Denmark, Frederiksberg. Femaile photographer at Nakskov in Denmark. 15 stereo examples in the Danish Photo Historical Society - Registration of Danish Stereoviws (RODS). 
  
Jean-Charles Langlois (1789, 22 August - 1870, 24 March) died - France, Paris. French military officer, writer, photographer and painter of battle scenes. George Shiras (1859, 1 January - 1942, 24 March) died - US, MI, Marquette. American lawyer, politician and pioneer in wildlife photography taken at night with flash. The National Geographic Society holds 2,400 of his glass plates. 
  
Raoul Ubac (1910, 31 August - 1985, 24 March) died. Painter and photographer who became an active member of the Surrealist movement in Paris in the 1930s. He published in the French Surrealist magazine ‘Minotaur‘.
