David Bailey (1938, 2 January - ) was born - UK, London. English fashion photographer. 
  
Louis Fleckenstein (1866, 2 January - 1943, 9 April) was born - US, MN, Faribault. American pictorialist 
  
Pirkle Jones (1914, 2 January - 2009, 15 March) was born - US, LA, Shreveport. Californian teacher and photographer. 
  
Edwin Hale Lincoln (1848, 2 January - 1938) was born - US, MA, Westminster. Noted for his studies of nature, orchids, wild flowers, shipping and yachts, summer cottages and the estates of New England. He never owned a car but walked the countryside bringing home plants that he photographed in a studio in his basement. 
  
Yoshito Matsushige (1913, 2 January - 2005, 16 January) was born - Japan, Kure, Hiroshima. Japanese photojournalist who survived the atomic blast of 6th August 1945 and took the only five surviving photographs taken in Hiroshima that day. 
  
Volker Seding (1943, 2 January - 2007, 21 October) was born - Germany, Berlin. German-born photographer who studied drawing, painting and cinematography in Hannover before immigrating to Canada in 1966. He worked making documentary films before turning to photography. 
  
Adolf Fassbender (1884, 3 May - 1980, 2 January) died - US, NJ, Newton. Pictorialist. 
  
Lillian Gilbreth (1878, 24 May - 1972, 2 January) died. Efficiency specialist who used time lapse photography to study motion collaborating with her husband Frank Gilbreth. She is also well know for her best selling book Cheaper by the Dozen;. 
  
Clarence John Laughlin (1905, 14 August - 1985, 2 January) died - US, LA, New Orleans. American photographer specializing in the ‘Old South‘ - an area of abandoned plantations and graveyards around Mississippi and New Orleans. He was deeply interested in luminosity but also the hidden meanings and symbology of objects - More... 
  
Gustav Adolph Selle (1854, 27 February - 1902, 2 January) died - Germany, Potsdam. German photographer who worked with Julius Adolph Paul Kuntze.
