Luminous-Lint strongly believes in protecting the rights of photographers and all those creating original content.

Throughout this website careful attention is paid to how photographs are shown to ensure that full credit is given to the photographers, galleries, photography dealers, museums and private collectors who take, preserve and own images.

At times there is not sufficient space to display all the credit information beneath or next to a small version of the image but by clicking on any image you will get additional information including:

  • Photographer / artist name

A standardized name is given where available and this is normally a link to additional information that includes alternative versions of the name.
  • Dates associated with the image

Please note that there can be multiple dates, the date the image was made, date it was printed, date published etc. Frequently the information is not clear and I welcome corrections and additional information.
  • Techniques and processes used

Where known the process is given, for example: Gelatin silver print, Photogravure. These names are standardized where possible and linked to additional resources.
  • Size

Sizes are given as they were provided which can be in imperial or metric units. Normally the size relates to just the image but on occasion it refers to the overall mount. For Daguerreotypes, ambrotypes and tintypes the plate size is given.
  • Source

Wherever possible the source of the image is provided along with contact details to assist researchers. Many images are from private collections that do not wish to have their details shown. If you require assistance in tracking down the source of an elusive image on this website let me know and I may have further information.
  • Copyright transparency

Where images are in institutions links back to the original images and the webpage context are given. Accession numbers and details of gifts and bequests are shown. In the case where the item has been offered at an auction the sale and lot numbers are given. If appropriate contacts for obtaining publication rights are provided. This project makes no claim of rights on the images it contains. If you would like an image removed I will do it as quickly as possible but please consider that this project is to promote understanding of fine photography.
  • Additional information

Anecdotes, descriptive details, biographies, publications, alternative titles, details of changes of ownership are also included where possible. I welcome additional information on any image to ensure that the information is as accurate and complete as possible.

This website is improving all the time and if you have information to share with the global photo-history community then email me and I'll do everything I can to improve this resource.

best wishes
Alan Griffiths
