There are a large number of photography websites and some excellent specialist photographic bookstores such as:
  • Photo-Eye (376 Garcia Street, Suite A, Santa Fe, NM 87501, USA)

    Orders: 800 227 6941 (USA)
    Info: 505 988 5152 (USA)
    Fax: 505 988 4487 (USA)
  • Librerķa Kowasa, S.L. (235 Mallorca, Bajos 08008, Barcelona, Spain)

    Tel: +34 93 215 80 58 (Spain)
    Fax: +34 93 215 80 54 (Spain)
but these websites never brought together what I needed. I need background information to put photographers in context to understand the major themes of photography and how they interact so I decided to create a site that addresses my own needs and hopefully yours.

Here I include:
  • Details on individual photographers - not only their books but other resources on the Internet and elsewhere. I also collect biographical information and this is being constantly expanded.
  • Quotations - are included to encourage you to think about the nature of photography.
  • Photographic themes - are discussed in detail and linked into books that illustrate the points made where possible.
  • Extensive connections - between photographers and themes and so this site is rich in surprizing connections.
Specialist bookstores are fantastic but sometimes they are not the cheapest place to buy books and sometimes they don't provide ISBN numbers to make it more difficult to do comparative shopping. By purchasing from Amazon through this site you will help to encourage the educational aims of this site. You may say there are lots of Amazon based photographic bookshops on the Internet - this is true but none of them has any content. They want your money but they make no attempt to prepare information for you. This site is all about developing a relationship with you so that we can all learn about photography.

The motto of this site is:
"Encouraging photography one bit at a time"

My aim is to provide you with an immensely rich resource and if you feel that is an aim that you support then by all means help out.
