"Tone Poems moves from opus to opus, through subject matters and emotional tonalities that are markedly distinct..."
Donald Anderson, Photovision Magazine (November 2002)
"The piano music by Judith Cohen and the Barnbaum photographs support and reinforce each other, but neither dominates."
The book is 12 1/4" x 12," contains 90 superbly reproduced b&w photographs, and is divided into three sections, or opuses. The opuses are titled as follows: Opus 1, Enigmas, Abstractions and Surprises; Opus 2, Darkness and Despair; Opus 3, Lyricism of the Land. It was printed in Italy by Bolis Poligrafiche, using state-of-art tritone reproduction processes.
The accompanying CD contains 74 minutes of classical piano music, recorded in Seattle's Benaroya Hall, and played by Judith Cohen on solos, and together with accompanists on duets and a trio. The music was chosen to mirror and expand upon the emotional content of the imagery in each opus.
